MOTS-C

A 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) encoded within mitochondrial DNA rather than the nuclear genome, MOTS-c is a focal point in metabolic and longevity research. Each Vitalyx Bio vial contains 40 mg of MOTS-c as a lyophilized powder, supplied strictly for in-vitro and laboratory research.

MOTS-c acts as a signaling molecule coordinating mitochondrial and nuclear gene expression to regulate metabolic homeostasis and cellular energy communication. It is frequently referred to in the literature as an “exercise mimetic” for its ability to replicate cellular signaling patterns associated with physical exertion.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

  • AMPK Pathway Activation — research focuses on MOTS-c’s ability to target the folate-methionine cycle and activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a central regulator of cellular energy metabolism.
  • Insulin Sensitivity & Glucose Uptake — by stimulating AMPK, MOTS-c is investigated for its potential to enhance glucose uptake in skeletal muscle and improve insulin sensitivity in metabolic models.
  • Mitochondrial-Nuclear Retrograde Signaling — studied as a messenger peptide coordinating mitochondrial and nuclear gene expression, with implications for mitochondrial biogenesis.
  • Fat Oxidation & Adipose Signaling — examined in diet-induced obesity models for its potential to increase fat utilization (lipolysis) and promote browning of adipose tissue.

RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

  • Metabolic Homeostasis Research — investigated as a reference compound in studies of cellular energy production and metabolic regulation.
  • Exercise-Adaptation Signaling — a frequent subject in research on how mitochondrial-derived peptides respond to metabolic stress.
  • Aging & Longevity Biology — referenced in research exploring the intersection of mitochondrial function, metabolic regulation, and aging.

STORAGE & RECONSTITUTION

Keep the sealed, lyophilized vial cool, dry, and out of light, where it remains stable long-term before reconstitution. Reconstitute using sterile bacteriostatic water, directing the stream gently down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the powder, and swirl — do not shake — until fully dissolved. Once reconstituted, store refrigerated at 2–8°C, avoid freeze–thaw cycles, and follow your laboratory’s handling protocols.

This compound is strictly for in-vitro laboratory research use only and is not for human consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic purposes.
