Selank
A synthetic heptapeptide derived from tuftsin, Selank is a widely studied tool compound in anxiolytic and cognitive-neuroscience research. Each Vitalyx Bio vial contains 10 mg of Selank as a lyophilized powder, supplied strictly for in-vitro and laboratory research.
Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic analog of the endogenous immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, engineered with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro C-terminal extension for greater metabolic stability and a longer observation window in laboratory models. It is one of the most extensively studied peptides in GABAergic and neurotrophic signaling research.
Mechanism of Action
- GABAergic Modulation: Selank is investigated as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA signaling, a pathway central to anxiolytic research models.
- BDNF Upregulation: Studies indicate Selank increases expression of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) in the hippocampus, a protein linked to neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity.
- Enkephalin-Degrading Enzyme Inhibition: Selank is reported to inhibit enzymes that break down endogenous enkephalins, prolonging their activity in central-nervous-system models.
Research Applications
- Anxiolytic Research: Studied in behavioral models (elevated plus maze, open field) for its influence on stress and anxiety-like behavior.
- Neuroplasticity Studies: Investigated for its role in BDNF-mediated synaptic plasticity and long-term memory formation pathways.
- Monoamine Regulation: Explored for its influence on serotonergic and dopaminergic metabolism in stress-response research.
Storage & Reconstitution
Keep the sealed, lyophilized vial cool, dry, and out of light, where it remains stable long-term before reconstitution. Reconstitute using sterile bacteriostatic water, directing the stream gently down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the powder, and swirl — do not shake — until fully dissolved. Once reconstituted, store refrigerated at 2–8 °C, avoid freeze–thaw cycles, and follow your laboratory’s handling protocols.
This compound is strictly for in-vitro laboratory research use only and is not for human consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic purposes.
